Scientists tell us- at least those of us willing to listen, that natural communities are on the move, most likely because of global climate change. While this may not be obvious to the naked eye (what is a clothed eye?) or the casual observer, what can be seen while driving the I-5 corridor is that plants have their own ideas about borders.
When considering native plants for this area therefore, it seems to make a lot more sense to go with what has been defined as the Cascadian bioregion, as opposed to limiting oneself to the parameters set by the arbitrary human borders delineated by a connect-the-dot series of survey markers along the edges of Washington State. Here we will list plants found from Northern California to British Columbia, with an eye more toward offering regional favorites rather than attempting to accelerate species migration.
